PITCH / CHARACTER CONCEPTS

For a pitch I developed these character concepts of a group of animals. Story: they accidentally meet on a power line. By touching it the animals’ behavior changes as if they were under the influence of a mind-altering substance.

Every animal reacts differently: the wary raven develops an unabated sympathy for literally everything crossing its way. The owl, a critical mind and digruntled by nature, turns into the paramount example of a content stoic. The chronically hyperactive squirrel suddenly acts pleasantly laid-back. Only the pigeon does not become a more pleasant fellow, changing from a state of continuing confusion to a happy dancer with highly uncoordinated movement pattern.

I started with sketches to show the sudden change of character in every animal. Since they should have a realistic look later on, I  went on with more elaborated concept frames.

MERCEDES-BENZ X CLASS “FOLLOW” TAG ON / STORYBOARD & CONCEPT ART

With the team at Infected, Hamburg, I developed the concept for the tag on to their commercial for the Mercedes-Benz X Class.

Drawing the storyboard I wanted the character’s acting as well as the camera to be very precise to tell the story in the given time. For the environments I started with a very rough 3D layout as a light and geometry reference. Based thereon I painted and textured the concept frames. So I could make sure they would fit the final animation setup.

PORSCHE “HALL OF LEGENDS” / VR EXPERIENCE / CONCEPT DESIGN

Hamburg based interactive innovation agency Nerdindustries gave me the opportunity to design the architecture, character and assets for Porsche’s VR experience “Hall of legends”.

I started by exploring the shapes of the main character that leads the user trough the VR experience. “The Archivist” is an old soul holding the brand’s heritage while also referring to today’s Porsche design in its shape language.

I continued with the architectural setup in which the experience takes place. It should be a large hall with a gigantic illuminated and modular wall consisting of countless garages containing diverse Porsche models. The user stands in front of this wall and can access singles garages to get an insight into Porsche’s brand history by reference to single Porsche models. In the back there is a platform on which the new Porsche Formula E car is built.

In terms of the design I intended to combine the simplicity and elegance of the overall Porsche design with the pragmatic elements of a workshop.

For the Formula E platform in the back of the hall I explored different shapes and mechanisms. Since it would be quite far away from the user, I wanted to create an easily readable and rather simple shape with a light concept focusing on the car.

The final concept is a glass cube with a hydraulic lift in it that holds the car. To cover the lift the lower part of the glass surface is illuminated like an art installation.

The single garages in front of the user are accessible by a glass bridge. Every garage contains a Porsche car model surrounded by assets which tell its story.

In the end I explored different shapes for the user desk on which the user starts the experience.

DREI “POPCORN” / TVC / CONCEPT ART & MATTE PAINTING

I had the chance to work with Woodblock, Berlin, on this cute TVC for Drei. First I sketched composition concepts to define width and furnishing of the room. Based on the composition they chose I painted a colour script and then a matte painting for the room.

VODAFONE / “MISSION TO THE MOON” / CONCEPT & MATTE PAINTING

As part of Vodafone’s teaser for their “Mission to the moon” project my task was to create a space station and finish it for a Matte Painting at Infected, Hamburg. The station would appear in a wide shot later on so the overall readability of the shapes was in focus rather than details.

ANCIENT CULTURE / B&W ENVIRONMENT CONCEPTS

Personal work. Ideas on the discovery of an ancient culture’s abandoned temple that our yet anonymous protagonist finds in a remarkably well-preserved state.

CALPHALON / CONCEPT ART / PITCH

Concept Art I did for a pitch with weareflink, Hamburg, for self-sharpening cutlery. With this technology, knifes are sharpened by an in-block sharpener in the knife block everytime they are removed or replaced.

The task was to develop a factory hall with massive machines inside the knife block to show the sharpening process.
